Rising Cost of Healthcare

The rising cost of healthcare is prompting significant reductions in health insurance coverage across New Hampshire for 2026, with rural areas such as Coös County experiencing the most pronounced impact. Major insurers, including Anthem, Aetna, Harvard Pilgrim, UnitedHealthcare, and Martin's Point, are either withdrawing or scaling back their plans, leaving residents of Coös County with only WellSense and Humana as viable options. This contraction in available coverage is forcing many seniors to reassess their insurance plans amid limited choices, gaps in provider networks, and the potential for increased out-of-pocket expenses. These developments are largely attributed to reduced federal payments and heightened regulatory requirements, contributing to market instability that affects approximately 77,000 Granite Staters. Insurers cite these economic pressures as the primary factors driving their retrenchment from the state's insurance market.
